Architect: Matthäus Daniel Pöpperlmann
Interior Access
This wonderful large and sprawling Baroque building houses several museums. Zwinger means "intermural" and it was constructed in the space between the former city fortifications. It was commissioned by Augustus the Strong and the large interior courtyard was used for entertainments such as fireworks and tournaments. A stunning marriage of architetcure and sculpture, it was designed by Matthäus Daniel Pöpperlmann and sculptor Balthasar Permoser.
