Architecture of Kempten, Bavaria
Located on Iller river; Kempten was a Celtic settlement, and later a thriving Roman colony. A Benedictine abbey was founded here in the 8th century but later was in conflict with town, which was Protestant from 1525. A new town around the abbey was chartered in 18th century before the two towns were later reunited.
